VALO Awarded the Pride Institute’s “Best of Class” Technology Award for Second Consecutive Year
August 8, 2013 SOUTH JORDAN, UT
Ultradent Products, Inc., a global manufacturer and distributor of dental materials and equipment, received The Pride Institute’s “Best of Class” Technology Award for VALO, Ultradent’s curing light, for the second consecutive year. The award is the highest honor for innovation in dental curing lights. Each product honored as “Best of Class” features unique characteristics that differentiate it from the competition in a compelling way and, more importantly, creates value for the general dentist.
“VALO’s unmatched durability and uniquely powerful and collimated beam offers clinicians benefits that no other curing light can. The broad-spectrum output delivers irradiance from 395–480nm with an evenly distributed footprint and higher levels of power at a distance—which means better curing, regardless of material or technique,” said Suzanne Wilson, the senior brand manager at Ultradent. “VALO’s ease of use and low-profile design also truly differentiates it from the competition.”
“Our evaluators determined that VALO is still the most advanced curing light on the market, and this is why VALO was selected as the winner of The Pride Institute’s ‘Best of Class’ Technology Award for the second year in a row. This is extremely difficult to achieve based on how rigorous the selection process is —which speaks to the progressive nature of VALO’s technology,” said Dr. Lou Shuman, president of The Pride Institute.
The panel that selects the “Best of Class” winners consists of seven dentists with significant knowledge of and experience in dental technology, including Dr. Shuman; John Flucke, DDS, writer, speaker and technology editor for Dental Products Report; Paul Feuerstein, DMD, writer, speaker and technology editor for Dental Economics; Titus Schleyer, DMD, PhD, associate professor and director of the Center for Dental Informatics at the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine; Marty Jablow, DMD, technology writer and consultant for Dr. Bicuspid; Parag Kachalia, DDS, vice chair of preclinical education research and technology at the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry; and Larry Emmott, DDS, technology writer, speaker and dental marketing consultant.
VALO will be showcased at the “Tech Expo” at the American Dental Association’s annual meeting from Oct. 31 to Nov. 3 in New Orleans.

Ultradent Products, Inc. Celebrates 35th Anniversary
July 9, 2013 SOUTH JORDAN, Utah
Later this month, Ultradent Products, Inc. will mark its 35th anniversary as a family-owned, international dental supply and manufacturing company. The company will celebrate its growth from a family-run, grassroots small business to the international industry leader it is today with a week’s worth of celebrations, which will include an employee picnic, game day, video presentation, and family movie night. Dr. Fischer will also speak at the kick-off event, reminiscing about Ultradent’s more than three decades in business.
After graduation from Loma Linda University and beginning his own practice, Dr. Dan Fischer invented and patented his groundbreaking hemostatic solution, Astringedent, in 1976 as an answer to the need for a tissue management product that achieved more rapid, profound hemostasis. His desire to market his invention and to continue to develop more advanced dental solutions led him to found Ultradent Products, Inc. in 1979—setting the pace for a succession of products that today, includes a wide range of innovative dental materials.
Business grew rapidly, and Ultradent expanded from a family-only home operation to its current 310,000-square-foot, two-building facility in South Jordan, Utah—a facility that presently houses more than 1,000 employees. The company has also garnered a strong international presence, operating nine offices and distribution centers worldwide, including subsidiaries in Europe, Asia, and South America.
Ultradent currently researches, designs, manufactures, and packages more than 500 materials, devices, and instruments used by dentists around the world, including its renowned, industry-leading Opalescence tooth whitening system. Ultradent’s product family also includes the award-winning VALO curing light, UltraSeal XT hydro, Ultra-Etch, and the company’s newly released laser-sintered, highly esthetic composite veneer system: Edelweiss.
Beyond the dental community, Ultradent donates products to humanitarian efforts locally, nationally, and internationally. Additionally, Ultradent sponsors a nonprofit organization, the Diversity Foundation, a progressive outreach program committed to preventing hate crimes and intolerance. The program promotes diversity and fosters multicultural awareness among individuals from all backgrounds.

Triodent Announces V4 ClearMetal Matrix System™
July 1, 2013 SOUTH JORDAN, Utah
Triodent and Ultradent Products, Inc. are delighted to introduce the V4 ClearMetal Matrix System™, featuring the ClearMetal Matrix™ with “micro-windows.” ClearMetal is the only transparent matrix with the advantages of metal malleability. Hundreds of microscopic resin-filled windows allow light to pass through the stainless steel, so curing composite in a Class II restoration can be initiated laterally and interproximally, as well as occlusally, while leaving no imprint on the composite.
The V4 System creates natural contours with ease, and the added benefit of ring, matrix, and wedge transparency makes it a great match for bulk fill resins and deep cavities, giving the dentist peace of mind that the composite is sufficiently cured before the matrix is removed.
A smart feature of the ClearMetal Matrix is that the micro-windows act like a “ramp cure,” where light intensity is increased gradually to reduce initial stress and optimize polymerization. Of course, once the matrix has been removed, the composite can be given a final cure.
The V4 System also includes a new V4 Ring™, which has superior grip over the full range of embrasure and Class II cavity shapes and sizes. It performs especially well on large restorations, gripping even on severely compromised teeth, and the ring tines are transparent for light transmission. The matrix ring, which comes in molar and premolar sizes, is also extremely durable and easier to clean than other rings.
Completing the system is the transparent V4 Wedge™. The wedge, though very small, is packed with unique features that facilitate outstanding matrix retention and adaptation, and a perfect seal on the matrix at the gingival margin.
Triodent has a proud dental manufacturing history, led by the multi-award-winning V3 Sectional Matrix System.
Triodent founder and CEO Dr. Simon McDonald says the launch of the V4 is exciting, not least because of the breakthrough technology featured in the matrix, and the innovations in the wedge.
“It’s a fantastic thrill bringing a new product to market,” Dr McDonald says. “We always knew we were on a winner with V3 but it was humbling that dentists embraced it in the way they did. I’m confident the V4 will get the same reaction—it’s such a clever system.
“Making the dentist’s job easier is always our primary aim in developing products, and we’ve done it again with V4. This is a product for bulk fill and traditional composite users. And whether they feel it’s necessary or not, dentists will find the cure-through option irresistible.”
Initial reaction to V4 has been extremely positive. Leading dental educator Dr. John Comisi describes it as a “terrific device.”
“Once again Triodent has made a major leap forward in improving the restorative process,” he says.
V4 is available initially only in the United States, through Triodent’s exclusive U.S. dealer, Ultradent Products Inc., before being rolled out globally.
The solution is clear – V4.
