  • Ultradent’s Umbrella™ Tongue, Lip, and Cheek Retractor Wins 2021 Cellerant Best of Class Technology Award

September 1, 2021 South Jordan, Utah

Ultradent Products, Inc., is thrilled to announce that their innovative Umbrella™ retractor has been named a 2021 Cellerant Best of Class Technology Award winner. Every year, the Cellerant Consulting Group recognizes manufacturers and providers with their highly selective Best of Class Technology Award in numerous product categories, making the award one of the most prestigious honors in the dental industry.

Of the accolade, Dr. Lou Shuman, CEO of Cellerant and the founder of the Best of Class Technology Awards, says, “During what is once again proving to be a very challenging year for the dental industry, each of these extraordinary companies and their award-winning technologies have earned the right to celebrate.” He continues, “Our panel spent many hours in close discussion in order to identify these standout products. Pay close attention to our winners as they are truly leading the way to provide you what is best in today’s contemporary practice.”

Ultradent created the disposable Umbrella retractor to provide dentists with clearer access to all areas of the mouth—while prioritizing patient comfort. Rather than pulling or stretching the lips like traditional dental retractors, the Umbrella retractor naturally helps the patient hold their mouth open. This is thanks to its spring-like design, among a long list of other features and benefits.

Of receiving the Cellerant Best of Class Technology Award, Dr. Jaleena Jessop, Ultradent’s vice-president of clinical affairs, remarked, “Ultradent is ecstatic to have our Umbrella retractor recognized with a 2021 Cellerant Best of Class Technology Award. We’re always striving to improve the lives of both dentists and patients with innovative products, and it’s gratifying to see the Umbrella retractor do just that by allowing clinicians to work with more ease and visibility, while giving patients a more comfortable experience.” She adds, “To be included among the other cutting-edge products honored by the Cellerant Consulting Group this year is incredibly humbling and exciting.”

About the Cellerant Best of Class Technology Award

Since the inaugural presentation in 2009, the Best of Class Technology Awards have grown to occupy a unique space in dentistry by creating awareness in the community of manufacturers that are driving the discussion as to how practices will operate now and in the future.

The selection process relies on an expert panel of dentists recognized as thought leaders and educators, including: Paul Feuerstein, DMD, editor-in-chief of Dentistry Today; John Flucke, DDS, technology editor for Dental Products Report; Marty Jablow, DMD, editor-in-chief of Dental Economics; Chris Salierno, DDS, chief dental officer for Tend; and Lou Shuman, DMD, CAGS, founder and creator sof the Best of Class Technology Award.

Over the course of each year, panel members seek out and conduct research on potentially practice-changing technologies, with deliberations on nominees and final voting taking place in February. Panelists are precluded from voting in any category where they have consulting relationships. The entire selection process is conducted and managed on a not-for-profit basis.
